Do you remember what Jesus said to Peter when Peter tried to defend Jesus from getting arrested before going on the cross? Jesus said (PPT) “Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matt. 26:53). There were more than a dozen legions of angels kept at bay, ready to strike an annihilate at a moment’s notice, should the Lord wished to do so. Just imagine those legions of angels having been strained tight on a leash by the Lord who forbade them from venting their fury at those perpetrators as Jesus took the mockery, the lashes, the beatings, and of course the nailing on the cross. (PPT) However, according to verse 8, on that Day when Jesus returns with His vast multitudes of angelic armies, the angelic host will be set free to unleash its full might “in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.”
